Notes on Shipping Costs
We are fully aware that the shipping costs for our pot pies can seem exorbitant. And there is nothing more we would like that to have zero shipping costs for our customers. Unfortunately we would be out of business within days if we did that.
We MUST ship via overnight service. No carrier currently guarantees overnight delivery, citing the pandemic and increased shipping volume as the reason. Our insulation and cold block will keep your frozen pot pies ice cold for 48 hours. After that, it is over. Therefore if there is an unforeseen delay with a 2nd Day Air shipment and you received your package on Day 3, your pies would likely be ruined. We ship via overnight to build in that buffer to ensure that your pies arrive safely and ready to go into your freezer until you are ready to bake them.
All carriers announced in early fall of 2020 that they would be increasing their rates for the months of November and December, 2020. They claimed that the pandemic and increased holiday shipping volume necessitated this increase. We anticipated a return to normal shipping fees as of January 1, 2021 and instead all carriers chose to further increase their rates.
We do not make any money on the shipping and handling charges that our customers pay. When you select UPS shipping for your package, you are seeing a rate that reflects approximately 65% discounting from the basic UPS rate. For Fedex we have negotiated a discount of approximately 45%. We are a small business, independently owned and operated – we do not have any leverage whatsoever with carriers. We are incredibly grateful that, through our use of the Shopify platform, we receive their discount for UPS.
The result of all of this is that small businesses like ourselves have to force the customer to pay for shipping – which is why so many folks shop with massive shopping platforms. We are grateful that you are here with us, that you care about the quality of your product and that you are dedicated to celebrating small businesses and small farms.
How can you help to mitigate the costs of shipping?
If you live within 20 miles of June Farms/West Sand Lake, NY, you can choose Local Delivery as your shipping option. We delivery on Thursdays of each week for a charge of $10. Additionally you can select Farm Pickup for no charge – we work to schedule pickups at June Farms with all of our customers who wish to do so.
Lastly, if you are not in our area, you can order up to 12 pot pies (the maximum amount that fits in our cold box) at once. The cost of shipping amounts to renting cubic inches on a plane and in a truck. Increasing the weight of the box with extra pies will add only minimal amounts to your shipping cost. Therefore 12 pies will cost far less per pie to ship than will 4 pies. Our pies are individually vacuum sealed for safety and freshness – so a dozen in your freezer will be the perfect way to have an easy, delicious dinner for one… or a wonderful dinner for 6 loved ones.
Again, we thank you for your understanding and support on this matter.
